So Saturday was freakin' awesome. We (Tahleen, Shannon, and I) left yesterday morning, since they wanted to visit the Vans Outlet in Tracy and hang out at Pier 39. I was fine with both things, and got a cool new scarf for $5 at the Vans Outlet and snagged some candy at Pier 39, but not too much, because I've got a new laptop to save up for... but the Airheads and Cherry Ring Pop were too much to pass up. I should have grabbed a few Pixy Stix for good measure.
We took the city bus to a great pizzeria near AT&T Park (where the Giants play), and then to Union Square, which kicked off our search for the theater... we just sort of struck out in one direction and ended up about four blocks from the theater. Oops. Thanks to a very helpful police officer (and apologies to the guy in the back of the cruiser for taking the police's attention for a minute), we got back on track and made it with plenty of time for the show. We did a lot of walking around SF - my feet, knees, back, and hips are still a little sore...
The movie was, true to form, a piece of crap. It was called The Dynamite Brothers, and it was the first night that anyone had ever seen it riffed with the CT people. That's right, I managed to see a Cinematic Titanic premiere. Yay me. The only thing that kept it from being a perfect night was the fact that even though I had been somewhat warned, I didn't fully take into account exactly how not-edited-for-television CT Live would be... I think the language kind of put Shannon and Tahleen off the experience (even though Shannon pretty much completely hated the whole night). Tahleen was very kind to say she'd go with, and so I feel bad for sticking her in that situation, but I still had a blast. The Titans did manage to do something great with the opportunity, though. First time the n-word got used (I wasn't counting how many times it got used total... I stopped paying attention to the plot and just enjoyed the riffing), all five Titans did this awesome simultaneous spit take. It was the best spit take that I have ever seen.
About an hour of standing in line later, I got my picture taken with Mary Jo Pehl (played Pearl Forrester on MST3K), Trace Beaulieu (the original Crow T. Robot/Dr. Forrester) and J. Elvis Weinstein (the original Tom Servo/Dr. Laurence Erhardt), and Joel freakin' Hodgson! I completely blanked on remembering to mention loving hearing Frank Conniff (TV's Frank) on The Radio Adventures of Doctor Floyd, and so I didn't get a picture with him, but the five of them all signed my copy of Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie. I also avoided making a fool of myself talking with Mary Jo when I mentioned the ornament I sent her two Christmases ago (she and her husband took part in a MST3K Discussion Board Christmas Card exchange, and I took the opportunity to send them a hand-painted Satellite of Love ornament), and I managed to be charming to Trace and Josh (I just can't call him J. Elvis), but I ended up talking a little more to Josh than Trace, even though I <3 Crow and Dr. F. Most surprisingly, I managed to not fall on the floor. Seriously, as soon as I handed Joel (pardon me while I have an OMG-I-talked-to-Joel-Hodgson! moment) my DVD case, my knees started shaking. Thank goodness it wasn't warmer weather, because I probably would have worn a skirt, and then people might have seen me unable to stand like a normal person.
This post is worthless without pics!
Me, Tahleen, and Shannon at Amici's waiting for our pizza. (Aimee, if you ever come to CA, I'm taking you here - they do gluten free.)
Joel, I bet constantly posing for pics can get boring. Way to keep things fresh, and also makes for a great picture! You are infinitely awesome.
The totally cool Mary Jo. (I swear I'm looking at the camera...)
Josh (aka J. Elvis), me, and Trace. Trace is a class act, and Josh is pretty cool, and very self-deprecating about his time on MST (he was 17 when the show went on the air), even though he's pretty brilliant.
