Let me introduce you to my new adopted daughter.
Her name is Melanie Alaine, and she was aborted before anyone got a chance to love her.
The people at Georgia Right to Life have started a campaign to memorialize the 50 million babies aborted since the passage of Roe v. Wade by granting each of them their own name. This morning, as my pastor preached his message on what the Bible says about abortion, God really broke my heart for the pro-life movement. The verses were things I had already heard before, but all of a sudden I was hearing them with new ears, so to speak. We have federal legislation protecting at least 17 species of snail(!), but an unborn human child, created by and precious to God, with his or her own unique fingerprint and DNA and a beating heart, is considered nothing more than a blob of tissue.
I'm still not sure what actions I will take to help the pro-life movement (I think I might like to adopt a child someday, but that's in the future), but for now, I have started by adopting this lovely little girl. Her name isn't on the memorial wall yet, but she will be soon. I am urging all of the people on my friends list to step up and adopt one of these children yourself. Even if you can't financially contribute, tell your friends. Bring one of these babies into your own family. They don't have to go on the wall to be loved. Maybe, if we as a society can see these littlest among us as the human beings they are, this silent holocaust can stop.
