Quote of the Whenever I Feel Like Changing It “And don 't forget, the next time you're planning a family vacation, consider visiting Genovia. A country of majestic mountains and sunbaked beaches, filled with friendly, peppy people. Come see us. Genovia awaits you.” – Joe, “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement”

I can't decide if I want to laugh, shout, or cry. Maybe all three.
After much fussing, fretting, casting aspersions, and planning a one-girl takedown of the National Passport Agency, I have been issued a passport, gotten the number, and started working toward completing my London 2012 application! I just need to hash out my availability with the rest of my London Olympic expeditionmates - namely, three of Lauren's friends, two of whom I've only been introduced to once. At least they're nice (and Christians), as we could feasibly be living together in a foreign country for several weeks, and interpersonal issues would not be helpful. There was literally little time to spare, as the deadline is midnight Wednesday London time, which is sometime tomorrow afternoon over here.
In other news, the Giants are going to the freaking World Series! Sunday night was another almost-nailbiter, as the Giants' bullpen didn't allow a single run after the faltering starter allowed 2. They ended up winning 3-2, which coincidentally (or poetically) was the count to the final Phillies batter Ryan Howard. The Giants closer could have walked Howard, which would have kept the game going, a base hit could have tied the game, and a double or better would have won the game for the Phillies and forced a Game 7, because of course Wilson let runners get to first and second. That's just how he rolls. He's a drama vampire - he feeds on it. Another seven games of torture start Wednesday - because of course it's going to take seven games and cause all sorts of ulcers (that's just how the Giants roll) - except this time, there's a big shiny Commissioner's Trophy on the line!
And finally, I abandoned my Halloween costume plans once more - I found a perfect, gorgeous gown at a thrift store, and so am going to be a princess for Halloween... at least unless/until we go to the corn maze two towns over (or it rains), in which case I'll change into comfortable clothes and be Kate Beckett. Of course, there will be pictures.
The gown is beautiful and fits like a glove. It's a floor-length ballgown that I'm sure was someone's bridesmaid dress. It's strapless and has all the little pick-ups in the skirt. (If it were yellow, it'd almost be a modern version of Belle's gown in Beauty and the Beast. As it is, it's almost a pistachio/mint ice cream green.) I can't stop getting excited about it - it really does fit like it was tailored to me and it makes me feel like a princess.
To sum up... yay!

And the answer to the perennial What-will-I-dress-up-as-for-Halloween question this year is...

I'm not sure what I'm going to be doing for Halloween this year, but I want to have a costume ready just in case. It's got to be simple and inexpensive, since I'm hoping I'll have enough money to blow on an Anne Boleyn replica gown from The Anne Boleyn Files. (I'm aiming at the Execution Gown, since it's the cheapest that still looks absolutely fabulous. Of course, if I get in to London 2012, the dress will be put on hold, since I'll need about $1300-$1500 to live off of while volunteering there.)
So, the ideas are spinning around, but I need an outside opinion... and so, a poll! (Except not a real poll: I apparently fail at those.)
( Here are the choices... ) Any other suggestions? I thought of Sunny from Outer Space Astronauts, but that's even more obscure than some of the others...

This year, there's no Trunk or Treat at church, since it's a Saturday, and the church doesn't like to mess with the weekend services. (Which I totally agree with. So hold the thing on Friday. Seriously, Children's Department, geez.) Trunk or Treat itself is rather meh, but it's probably the only chance I'll have this year to dress up, so now I'm looking at a costume-less Halloween. Which is probably okay, seeing as I can't justify buying a new costume, and nobody recognizes me as Carmen Sandiego or as Susan Pevensie. I get called either "a spy" or "Princess Fiona."
But it's okay. I'll just have my movie marathon like last year, except this year I'm going to kick it up a notch. (Take that, Emeril. Bam!) Of course I'll have the standbys: Corpse Bride, Casper, Hocus Pocus - you know, cheesy Halloween goodness - and some MST3K B-grade horror-movie wannabe (I think this year it'll be "The Screaming Skull." You gotta love a movie that claims that it'll scare you to death, then, should you actually die of fright, offers your grieving loved ones a free coffin... maybe so you won't sue. IDK.) And, maybe I'll throw in Thriller. I do love me some Vincent Price.
But this year I'm adding one of the scariest things I've ever seen. Marc Summers' Mystery Magical Tour (not to be confused with the Magical Mystery Tour), which aired on Nickelodeon for years when I was a kid. I first remember hearing about it when I was 5, and let's just say I took the "spooky/mystery" aspect of it a little too far. (What can I say? I've always had an active imagination - and even at 25, it sometimes gets the better of me.) So naturally when I stumbled across it on YouTube, some deep-seated memories came bubbling up to the surface. It was an interesting feeling, one I don't usually have. Can't say I necessarily like it. Partially because I'm being reminded of what a weird kid I was.
Actually, now that I think about it, and read the Wiki synopsis, I don't think I've actually seen more of this than the commericals. My mom is fairly anti-Halloween (funny, it's one of my favorite holidays), and I can certainly see her taking me to the church's Unhalloween Party instead of letting me watch "spooky" TV shows. But after the way it's stuck in my memory for all this time, now I definitely have to watch it. It's a matter of honor. (Even though it doesn't look like it's aged very well. Holy crap this thing is over 20 years old.)

Decided I wasn't quite ready to go to bed, so I'm going to brush my teeth and wrap up my Halloween mini-marathon spookfest with a little thing called "Thriller."
Blame Yahoo! and the fact that they had little Thriller-dancing zombies on their homepage.

[Error: unknown template qotd] I was Carmen Sandiego.
It's not a current picture (too busy handing out candy at Trunk or Treat at church), but it's still the same costume. Plus, nothing can beat getting my picture taken with a Power Ranger.

Also, for costume night at AWANA on the 29th, I was Susan Pevensie. Also not a current picture - I was really busy Wednesday night to get a picture.

The Halloween mini-marathon continues today with a Halloween episode of NCIS and "Corpse Bride." Then there's Trunk or Treat at church, and wrapping up the evening with the scariest movie I've ever seen: "Manos: The Hands of Fate." (MST3K for the win!) With the lights off (mostly because we won't have any candy left for trick-or-treaters).

I'm watching "Hocus Pocus" with the lights off (yeah, real scary, I know, but I love Sean Murray) and it just lightning-and-thundered outside - we're in for a sweet rainstorm.
Good, clean, spooky fun - I love it.
